Sports and Recreation

Of the 312,000 children in the QueensCare Family Clinic’s service sector—which includes Bresee—107,000 are at risk for obesity. Bresee’s Sports and Recreation programs address this chronic disease issue while encouraging healthy lifestyle activities, sportsmanship, and opportunities to unwind after school.

Organized Sports

Bresee was co-founder of the Central City Athletic Association, which was established to provide organized sports experiences for youth who, for whatever reason, are unable to play on school teams.  Our youth compete in basketball and soccer leagues versus kids from agencies across the city.

Recreation

Students unwind in playful competition activities, such as pick-up games at the gym adjacent to our center, or pool or foosball games in our light-filled recreational center.  The center also features a DJ booth and small amphitheater where teens can feed their cravings for recreational entertainment, and a snack bar where they can pick up a free healthy snack.  Bresee also escorts students to occasional outside activities, such as indoor roller skating and hiking.

Camps

Bresee camps provide many of our youth with their first forays into the great outdoors.  Annual Yosemite hiking/camping trips, weeklong bike excursions up the California coast, and houseboat/waterskiing camp are a few examples of the transformative adventures that build memories for a lifetime.
