Spiritual Development

Bresee Foundation was founded by members of Los Angeles First Church of the Nazarene and the values that drive Bresee's operations have their origin in the Christian faith. While community center members are not required to profess Christianity, and faith-based programming is strictly voluntary, we nevertheless maintain a hopeful vision that every person with whom we have contact experiences at least of glimpse of Christ's love through their interactions with our staff.  The spiritual development activities we offer provide space for exploration, expressing joy, and reflecting on Biblical perspectives.

Life

Life is the first spiritual development activity Bresee offered.  It hasn't changed much since its inception.  Through outrageous skits, games, lively music and simple Bible talks, kids are still learning that God loves them and has a sense of fun.  Life is facilitated once a week by Bresee staff and volunteers, who aren’t afraid to be fools for Christ.

CoffeeHouse

Older youth who value philosophical discussion and intensive support from peers and caring adult mentors are served through our CoffeeHouse program.  Held weekly, it is a safe environment for discussing spiritual issues, exploring social justice concerns and finding respect for one’s viewpoints, regardless of whether anyone else agrees.  Films, guest speakers and other supplements encourage critical thinking and exploration.
