Leadership Development

Approximately 25% of current Bresee staff attended Bresee Youth Center during their adolescence. Thus, we have a heritage of growing young leaders who decide to return their communities after college to invest in its transformation.  Their efforts are essential to inspiring youth today to follow in their positive footsteps, and they are often key facilitators of our leadership development programming.

Leadership Council

Bresee participates in the Los Angeles Youth Leadership Academy, facilitated by the Majestic Realty Foundation.  Selected youth leaders receive intensive leadership training, collaborate with peers from other agencies and facilitate major community projects through their participation in LAYLC.  Bresee leaders are equipped to serve the youth at our center more effectively as a result, and helping to drive center operations through their influence and perspectives, and provide invaluable junior staff support.

Financial Literacy

In the early ‘90s, a group of Bresee students were brainstorming ways to profit from their good behavior. They suggested a credit system where they could immediately receive points that they would be trusted to earn later.  This system is still in place at our center.  Today, Bresee’s LAYLC participants address the challenges of financial literacy in our community by facilitating workshops at Bresee and at local teen centers.
