Filmmaking and Digital MediaTraining

The goals of our Bresee Youth Media Filmmaking and Digital Media Training Program are three-fold:

  • To teach professional video production job skills to give young people from our community the chance to gain employment in the entertainment industry.
  • To teach young people how to tell a story and structure it professionally for television and feature film production.
  • To teach young people to use digital technology to create media that expresses their unique point of view and life experience.

Instructed by Bresee staff members Jerold Kress, a graduate of the American Film Institute, a documentary filmmaker, and member of Editors Guild and Gabriel Diaz, who helped pioneer our multimedia program as a youth, Bresee Youth Media has been training budding filmmakers and other digital media artists since 2002. Classes in filmmaking, photography and video blogging take place in CyberHood and Bresee’s digital media studio, equipped with industry-standard computers, filmmaking equipment and software, including Final Cut Pro. Bresee also partners with schools and other agencies to provide filmmaking training for their participants and/or to develop short films to highlight social issues; see Bresee Youth Media below to view completed projects. Young filmmakers throughout LA county participate in the Los Angeles Film Festival on Social Justice, which is primarily sponsored by and housed at Bresee.
