Theme: High School Drop Outs
RULES & GUIDELINES
- Youth between the ages 14 to 19 only may submit.
- Only Los Angeles City and County residents may submit.
- The films must be created, filmed and edited by youth. Adults can be involved only as advisors, instructors or mentors.
- The maximum length allowed is fifteen minutes. There is no minimum length.
- Your submission must be postmarked or delivered to the Bresee Community Center by April 20, 2007.
- The films need to address one or more of the follow points:
- Tell the story of a drop out, or a student who has the potential to drop out of high school.
- Tell the story of a student that could have dropped out, who beat the odds and graduated.
- What are the reasons that so many LAUSD high school students are not graduating?
- What is wrong with our Government, Economy, School System, School Buildings, Teachers, Principals, Counselors, Students, Parents, Families, Media, Neighborhoods, Religious Institutions, Health Care, or Society that is leading so many young people to drop out of school?
- What kind of life are those students who do not graduate leading? Are they working, in gangs, partying, on drugs, living on the streets?
- What are some solutions for fixing the problem, and ensuring that all of the young people in Los Angeles graduate from High School?
- The film can take any style, from P.S.A. narrative fiction, music video, documentary or experimental.
- DVD is the preferred submission format but miniDVs and VHS will also be accepted. Submissions cannot be returned.
