Bresee Staff: Leadership and Social Development
Leadership & Social Development programs offer youth (ages
11-21) safe and healthy after-school opportunities including leadership
training, and fun, social activities offered in our on-site recreation
center. Summer camps, local field trips, and organized sports leagues
give youth opportunity to build healthy relationships with peers who
live outside their neighborhood.
What I do:
I answer the phone, greet and direct visitors at the front desk, prepare
mailings, input contributions and help staff with other tasks. Right
now, I am also assisting with the health program.
Why I am here:
My seventh grade teacher at Virgil Middle School informed his students
about an upcoming $20 Magic Mountain trip (with transportation provided).
Upon my parents’ consent and disbelief, I came to Bresee to
find out more. It was true, but there were no more spaces available.
However, I discovered a safe environment where I could do my homework,
get assistance (if needed) and participate in other activities. I
remained at Bresee until I finished high school, but while in college
I realized that I wanted to take part in providing that same “safe
environment” for others.
What I enjoy about what I do:
I remember telling Jeff Carr [former executive director] once, “I
like that Bresee does what they say they do, and not everyone can
say that.” I still feel the same way today. Bresee makes a difference
in people’s lives. I’m one of them.
