What I do:
I recruit and develop relationships with volunteers to be mentors in the HOSTS (Help One Student to Succeed) program.  I also find tutors and teachers for various workshops that we offer to our students (such as cooking, dance, sewing, film production, etc.). Volunteers are a very important part of Bresee and the world, and so I also plan appreciation events for them. I also do public relations for events by creating brochures and fliers, by partnering with schools, and by attending fairs.

Why I am here:
I came to L.A. for fashion, the city and its cultures, and the ocean. After working in the industry for a bit, I decided I wanted to work full time with urban youth. I didn't know much about urban issues since I am from a farm community in the midwest, but after doing an intensive year-long urban program in Atlanta called Mission Year, my heart and eyes have changed forever, and for the better. I desire to create lasting, real change in the world starting with my own backyard.

What I enjoy about what I do:
I love connecting people and being part of a process where lives are being transformed.  Children benefit from the knowledge and physical presence of a volunteer, and volunteers are also blessed from the perspective and love that children bring. I have been around the world and back and I can honestly say that one of my greatest joys is bettering the world and advancing the Kingdom by working with inner-city children.
