Bresee Staff:
Leadership and Social Development

Leadership & Social Development programs offer youth (ages 11-21) safe and healthy after-school opportunities including leadership training, and fun, social activities offered in our on-site recreation center. Summer camps, local field trips, and organized sports leagues give youth opportunity to build healthy relationships with peers who live outside their neighborhood.

What I do:
I am the JAG (Justice Assistance Grant) case manager. I work with youth who have committed minor repeat offenses. Our program provides several classes such as anger management sessions, peer counseling sessions, and much more.

Why I am here:
I started coming to Bresee in 1992 but I didn’t get serious about coming until 1995, after my mother had suffered a stroke. Bresee became a second home and the support that was given to me by all my mentors was much needed. As a youth, I remember how great it felt to have mentors who truly cared and were always there. I remember how happy and accepted I felt being a part of Bresee.

Here is an interesting fact: My very first job while in high school was at Bresee, my very first job after graduating from high school was at Bresee and, once again, Bresee is now my first job after graduating college.

What I enjoy about what I do:
As a case manager, what I enjoy the most is giving kids a second chance. Most of the teenagers I work with are the victims of circumstances themselves. I want to be part of the healing process that they need.

After completing a summer internship program at Bresee, I realized how much potential these kids have and I realized how much a difference one person can make. I have benefited so much from Bresee that it would be selfish of me not to give back.
